Kollam the backwater entry point

Kollam the city of cashew, is also one of the ancient ports of south India, known right from the Phoenicians to the Romans of the past. Even now Kollam is famous for its fishing. The Neendakara Fishing harbor is one of the biggest in Kerala. Now why did I start talking about Kollam, its the city where i reside... Kollam kandal illam vaenda is an age old saying.
this is a land where people live in religious harmony. we have Christians, Muslims and Hindus, eating drinking and dying alongside one another with out any illwill. we have churches from the ancient times. Its believed that St Thomas the disciple of Jesus came to Kollam and established a church here. Muslims too are quite numerous but they tend to concentrate at certain locations. the Hindu temple festivals are so enchanting the temple elephants add color and magic to these festivals.
Now did I mention that Kollam has its share of politicians?? we have currently four ministers in the assembly. and so getting a minister to attend a function is so easy......lol
